This is what my email said today...
Hello, megan! Welcome to the second trimester! This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb. Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him -- a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches -- about the size of a lemon -- and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.
At the doctor today we heard the heartbeat and got all kinds of pokes and prodding done. But by far the coolest thing was that Sarah (the doctor) came in with her brand new 4D ultrasound machine and showed us the little thing that's been making me so sick. It was sucking its thumb and moving all around. She could barely get measurements because it was kicking its little legs around so much. Finally felt like I connected to it being my baby and not just nausea! Very exciting. I'm going to be honest, until today and after the initial excitement of finding out I was pregnant, it's been some pretty dark days. Not a whole lot to be excited about when you spend every moment trying to hold down everything you eat. Throughout the ultra sound I could feel the baby pushing against wand thing. Wow, I thought it was too early, but apparently I have been feeling it and not just imagining it. Sarah was great and was just excited as us to see if we could tell what it was. boy or girl?
SOOOOOOOOOO????
I'm going to have to keep you all guessing because both grandmas have not been contacted yet! Isn't that just cruel! She's not totally sure it is what she thinks it is because it is early, but she's fairly certain.
